No, no, I never was in love – Songs with Theorbo (ca. 1650 – 1663)

More than 350 years had to pass before these French, Italian and English songs are played once more. The selection of songs of this first recording comes from two manuscripts that where found approximately 25 years ago in Oxford and London. Even after 350 years we do not fully know who they were written for, who by, to what purpose and why the manuscripts stop short suddenly and show only empty staves on their last pages.

What remains is a treasure of music for the unusual combination of voice and theorbo which has been enriched for this recording with contemporary instrumental intermezzi for theorbo.
